ShapeShift Appoints Michael Perklin as Chief Information Security Officer to Strengthen Security Measures

ShapeShift, a digital currency trading company, has recognized the growing importance of providing secure services in the face of recent hacking incidents within the industry. To enhance its security measures, ShapeShift has appointed Canadian security expert Michael Perklin as its new Chief Information Security Officer.

Perklin's collaboration with ShapeShift began when he was hired to investigate the company's security breach in April 2016 and assist in its recovery. Impressed by ShapeShift's approach to business, Perklin believes in the power of blockchain technology and the company's non-custodial model that allows parties to transact without divulging excessive personal information.

The core of the ChronoBank concept revolves around the Labour-Hour (LH) digital token. These tokens will be freely tradable on the market and serve as the native currency for companies to purchase labor on the ChronoBank exchange. As Chief Information Security Officer, Perklin's expertise will be crucial in ensuring the security of the platform.

Perklin is a respected figure in the cybersecurity field, specializing in cyber investigations, digital forensic examinations, and security breach post-mortems. He founded Canada's first blockchain security consulting firm, Bitcoinsultants, and co-authored the CryptoCurrency Security Standard. Perklin will continue his role as president of C4, a nonprofit standards organization dedicated to advancing blockchain technology's effective use.

Erik Voorhees, CEO of ShapeShift, expressed his admiration for Perklin's work and emphasized the value of having him on board full-time. With his extensive experience and expertise, Perklin's presence is highly regarded within the blockchain community.

Notable figures within the industry, such as Anthony Di Iorio, CEO of Decentral and Jaxx Blockchain Interface, also praised Perklin's capabilities and viewed his joining ShapeShift as a significant advantage for the company.

Perklin's enthusiasm extends beyond ShapeShift, as he believes that blockchains are a game-changing technology that will have a profound impact on society. He draws parallels to the early days of the internet, highlighting how people gradually embraced new technologies once they understood their potential.

While some remain skeptical about the future of bitcoin, Perklin sees a natural progression toward widespread adoption. He dismisses misconceptions about bitcoin being untraceable or anonymous and believes that as understanding grows, people will integrate digital currencies into their daily lives.

Regarding Ethereum, Perklin remains optimistic despite recent concerns. He acknowledges that growing pains are to be expected with such pioneering technology and draws parallels to Bitcoin's early years. Perklin holds a positive outlook for Ethereum's future, considering the increasing need to exchange various digital assets in the global market.

Before joining ShapeShift, Perklin served as Head of Security and Investigative Services at LedgerLabs, a Canadian blockchain services firm comprising experts in Ethereum, smart contracts, and blockchain forensics.
